Calling all creative writers! The Young Writers' Workshop is holding its first creative writing contest for students. Submissions must be fiction and must begin with one of the following three prompts:
1) The wooden chest in the basement was always locked. Except that day.
2) I tried warning my best friend not to touch the button but...
3) A giant hand reached up and turned the knob. That's when the storm started.
Submissions can be entered using this form (click for link)
Submissions must be received by end of day of February 28, 2026 and winners will be announced in early spring.
Ages 8-12: 750-1,000 words
Ages 13-17: 900-1,200 words
There will be one winner per age group and winners and runners up will be published in the YWW literary magazine in late Spring.
Happy writing & thank you for your interest in the Young Writers Fiction Contest!
